Solo & Ensemble

Here is the schedule for this weekend's Solo & Ensemble competition. All time slots are final and cannot be changed. Room assignments will be posted as soon as possible. Please make sure to arrive at Grant at least a half hour before you time slot to check in and warm up. We will have a short mandatory meeting on Friday after school to go over the procedures for the day. We will also be helping to set up and arrange the performance rooms. Parents feel free to come by and watch your students perform, it's always great to have a fan in the audience. Students: Keep going over your music everyday and please come by and see me to get help working on your piece. Good luck!

Beethoven's 9th Symphony Rehearsal

This weekend the Oregon Symphony and the Portland Symphonic Choir are performing Beethoven's 9th Symphony (Ode to Joy) and Benjamin Britten's Ballad of Heroes. Both are incredible choral/orchestral works and are definitely worth hearing. All of the tickets for the performances are sold out, however there is a dress rehearsal performance open to the public. The rehearsal is on Saturday (9th), at the Schnitz downtown and starts at 9:45am, doors at 9am. Tickets are only $20 and it's open seating in the lower balcony, where the sound and the view is the best. The rehearsal will be a wonderful opportunity for students to hear this remarkable music but also witness the rehearsal process of professional musicians and see what kind of choral opportunities are available after high school and college. I've posted the link to the symphony website where you can buy tickets ahead of time before they sell out as well.

Hope to see many of you there and enjoy the music!

Holy Night From the Grotto

Here is a link to a youtube video of our closing number, O Holy Night at the Grotto, December 11th, 2012. Alexa Zeryk did a beautiful job with the solo, and the choir truly sounds magnificent in the sanctuary. Thanks for a great performance and enjoy!

Photos from REACH gig on 12/14

Here are six great photos of the RB's performing at the grand opening of REACH on 12/14. This was their last gig of the holiday season. It was a tiring gig as we were mostly background music as people mingled before the event, but it was well worth it because we got to pose for a few photos and sing Jingle Bells with city commissioner Nick Fish. Photographer Al Stern has many more photos from the event that are available for download and printing. Links to his information are at the bottom.

Here are the links for finding all of the photos:

High quality prints and frames available for purchase-

Dropbox folder containing both JPEG's and PDF's for download-

Al Stern's Flickr site for viewing-

Also, here is Al Stern's website. al-stern.com He would love to photograph the blues again and would love to be available for doing senior photos/RB's solo photos. If you are interested feel free to contact him. He's done us a huge favor by giving us all of these photos for free.

Welcome!

Welcome to the Royal Blues Blog! This blog is intended to be a sister blog to the Grant Choral Department Blog, grantchoir.blogspot.com , and will focus specifically on information pertaining to the Royal Blues. Here you will find the comprehensive Royal Blues calendar/schedule, roster, links for students to listen/study their music, photos from events and hopefully videos from performances. The goal of this blog is to be an online resource to keep parents and students connected with the program at all times. I will do my best to update it regularly and keep it interesting. Thanks for viewing/following and enjoy the blog!
